A consequence of campaigns to clear the slums of England and as a result of the hundreds of thousands of homes destroyed or damaged in WWII, housing became an important issue in Great Britain’s history for over a century. A list of constraints on private building, in conjunction with a rise in land prices and a shortage in traditional materials drove the socio-political atmosphere of Great Britain towards an ingenuity, unprecedented in the housing industry.

A list of constraints on private building, in conjunction with a rise in land prices and a shortage in traditional materials drove the socio-political atmosphere of Great Britain towards an ingenuity, unprecedented in the housing industry. Large construction companies began importing French and Scandinavian Building Systems and manufacturers around the UK began producing prefabricated industrialised housing systems from factories that had previous produced weapons and aircraft for the war effort, to fill the need for housing.
